Learning Through Inquiry
Courses are built around sustained inquiry: complex problems, evidence-based positions, structured debate, and iterative writing. Every assessment mirrors what students will face in their first year of university.
AI as a Learning Partner
AI is used ethically and responsibly in a rigorous learning experience. Students first learn to formulate their own positions, then use AI tools to test, refine, and challenge their thinking.

VEGA Academy students arrive at university having already practiced the skills their first year demands: case-based investigation, evidence-based writing, structured debate, and ethical AI use.

IBU Pathway Access
Students who meet admission criteria have direct entry to International Business University programs. Six dual transfer credits allow students to begin university with advanced standing.

English
Grade 11 • University PreparationThis course sharpens the literacy and communication skills students need for university-level work and daily life. Students examine literary texts spanning multiple periods, countries, and cultures alongside informational and graphic material, and produce oral, written, and media work in several forms. Precision of language and effective use of stylistic technique are core focuses throughout. This course prepares students for the compulsory Grade 12 university or college preparation English course.
Functions
Grade 11 • University PreparationThis course builds the concept of a function by extending what students already know about linear and quadratic relations. Students investigate discrete and continuous functions, including trigonometric and exponential functions, and represent them numerically, algebraically, and graphically. They solve problems involving functions, investigate inverse functions, and construct equivalent algebraic expressions, reasoning mathematically and communicating their thinking through multi-step problem solving.
Physics
Grade 11 • University PreparationThis course helps students to understand the core concepts of physics. Students study kinematics with an emphasis on linear motion, the different kinds of forces, energy transformations, mechanical waves and sound, and electricity and magnetism. They test the laws of physics directly through scientific investigation, and examine how physics and technology intersect, along with the impact of technological applications on society and the environment.
Chemistry
Grade 11 • University PreparationThis course strengthens students' understanding of chemistry through the properties of chemicals and chemical bonds, chemical reactions and the quantitative relationships within them, solutions and solubility, and atmospheric chemistry and gas behaviour. Students build their analytical skills by investigating the qualitative and quantitative properties of matter, and examine how common chemical reactions affect society and the environment.
The Individual and the Economy
Grade 11 • University/College PreparationThis course examines the issues and challenges facing the Canadian economy and the consequences of different policy responses. Students study the economic roles of firms, workers, and government, along with their own roles as consumers and contributors, and apply economic thinking and the economic inquiry process, including economic models, to investigate issues at the individual, regional, and national level.
Financial Accounting Fundamentals
Grade 11 • University/College PreparationThis course teaches the fundamental principles and procedures of accounting. Students build the financial analysis and decision-making skills that support future study or work in business, and gain a working understanding of accounting for service and merchandising businesses, computerized accounting, financial analysis, and ethics in accounting practice.
Entrepreneurship: The Venture
Grade 11 • College PreparationThis course examines how entrepreneurs identify opportunities, generate ideas, and organize resources to plan a successful venture. Students build a venture plan for a school-based or student-run business, and develop the values, traits, and skills associated with successful entrepreneurs through hands-on work.
Understanding Canadian Law
Grade 11 • University/College PreparationThis course examines Canadian law through the legal issues most relevant to daily life in Canada. Students study the laws governing rights and freedoms, the structure of the legal system, and family, contract, employment, tort, and criminal law. They build legal reasoning skills and apply the legal studies inquiry process to investigate legal issues and form and communicate informed opinions.

Grade 12 • University PreparationThis course consolidates the literacy and communication skills students need for university, college, and the workplace. Students examine challenging literary texts from multiple periods, countries, and cultures, interpret and evaluate informational and graphic texts, and produce oral, written, and media work in several forms, developing greater command of academic language and writing.
Advanced Functions
Grade 12 • University PreparationThis course extends students' experience with functions. They investigate polynomial, rational, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions, build techniques for combining functions, and deepen their grasp of rates of change. This course is built for students taking Calculus and Vectors or strengthening their mathematics background ahead of university.
Calculus and Vectors
Grade 12 • University PreparationThis course builds on students' prior experience with functions and rates of change. Students solve problems involving vectors and three-dimensional geometry, study derivatives across multiple function types, and apply calculus to model relationships. It is built for students pursuing science, engineering, economics, business, and related university programs.
Mathematics of Data Management
Grade 12 • University PreparationThis course examines mathematics as it applies to managing data. Students organize and analyze large datasets, solve probability and statistics problems, and complete a culminating statistical investigation, a course especially valuable for students planning to study business, social science, or the humanities.
Physics
Grade 12 • University PreparationThis course examines physics concepts and theories in greater depth. Students study energy transformations, forces, electrical, gravitational, and magnetic fields, electromagnetic radiation, quantum mechanics, and special relativity, building scientific investigation skills and examining how technological applications of physics affect society and the environment.
Chemistry
Grade 12 • University PreparationThis course examines organic chemistry, matter, energy changes, equilibrium, and electrochemistry. Students build problem-solving and investigation skills alongside their ability to communicate scientific information, with a focus on chemistry's role in everyday life and its environmental impact.
Analysing Current Economic Issues
Grade 12 • University PreparationThis course examines current Canadian and international economic issues, developments, policies, and practices from multiple perspectives. Students investigate globalization, trade, inequality, regulation, public spending, sustainability, and economic growth, applying economic thinking and inquiry to form informed opinions.
International Business Fundamentals
Grade 12 • University/College PreparationThis course examines the role of international business and trade in the global economy. Students study marketing, distribution, and international business management strategies, and identify what drives success in global markets, building a foundation for postsecondary business study.
Business Leadership: Management Fundamentals
Grade 12 • University/College PreparationThis course builds the leadership skills required to manage a successful business. Students examine decision-making, workplace conflict, employee motivation, planning, communication, ethics, and social responsibility, developing effective leadership skills through applied practice.
Financial Accounting Principles
Grade 12 • University/College PreparationThis course builds advanced accounting principles for postsecondary business study. Students study financial statements, business financing, accounting for assets, and accounting procedures for partnerships and corporations, strengthening business decision-making skills.
Philosophy: Questions and Theories
Grade 12 • University PreparationThis course introduces students to philosophical reasoning and the major branches of philosophy. Students build critical thinking, argument analysis, and research skills across ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of science, social and political philosophy, and aesthetics.
Canadian and International Law
Grade 12 • University PreparationThis course examines contemporary legal issues in Canadian and international law. Students study human rights, conflict resolution, and criminal, environmental, and workplace law, building legal reasoning skills and applying legal inquiry to real Canadian and international contexts.
