VEGA Academy is affiliated with International Business University (IBU), an independent, not-for-profit university in Toronto. Certain VEGA Academy Grade 12 courses carry dual transfer credit with IBU — meaning students earn both an OSSD credit and an IBU first-year credit in the same course.

Grade 12 • University Preparation

This course emphasizes the consolidation of the literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills necessary for success in academic and daily life. Students will analyse a range of challenging literary texts from various periods, countries, and cultures; interpret and evaluate informational and graphic texts; and create oral, written, and media texts in a variety of forms. An important focus will be on using academic language coherently and confidently, selecting the reading strategies best suited to particular texts and developing greater control in writing. The course is intended to prepare students for university, college, or the workplace.

Advanced Functions

Grade 12 • University Preparation

This course extends students’ experience with functions. Students will investigate the properties of polynomial, rational, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions; develop techniques for combining functions; broaden their understanding of rates of change; and develop facility in applying these concepts and skills. This course is intended for students taking Calculus and Vectors as a prerequisite or wishing to strengthen their mathematics background for university programs.

Calculus and Vectors

Grade 12 • University Preparation

This course builds on students’ previous experience with functions and their understanding of rates of change. Students will solve problems involving vectors and three-dimensional geometry, study derivatives of various functions, and apply calculus concepts to model real-world relationships. It is intended for students pursuing science, engineering, economics, business, and related university programs.

Mathematics of Data Management

Grade 12 • University Preparation

This course broadens students’ understanding of mathematics as it relates to managing data. Students will organize and analyse large amounts of information, solve probability and statistics problems, and complete a culminating statistical investigation. The course is especially valuable for students planning to study business, social sciences, or the humanities.

Physics

Grade 12 • University Preparation

This course enables students to deepen their understanding of physics concepts and theories. Students will study energy transformations, forces, electrical, gravitational and magnetic fields, electromagnetic radiation, quantum mechanics, and special relativity. They will further develop scientific investigation skills and examine the impact of technological applications of physics on society and the environment.

Chemistry

Grade 12 • University Preparation

This course enables students to deepen their understanding of chemistry through the study of organic chemistry, matter, energy changes, equilibrium, and electrochemistry. Students will strengthen their problem-solving and investigation skills while developing their ability to communicate scientific information. Emphasis is placed on chemistry's role in everyday life and its environmental impact.

Analysing Current Economic Issues

Grade 12 • University Preparation

This course examines current Canadian and international economic issues, developments, policies, and practices from diverse perspectives. Students will investigate globalization, trade, inequality, regulation, public spending, sustainability, and economic growth while applying economic thinking and inquiry to develop informed opinions.

International Business Fundamentals

Grade 12 • University/College Preparation

This course provides an overview of the importance of international business and trade in the global economy. Students will explore marketing, distribution, and international business management strategies while learning the factors that influence success in global markets. The course prepares students for postsecondary business programs.

Business Leadership: Management Fundamentals

Grade 12 • University/College Preparation

This course focuses on the development of leadership skills used in managing a successful business. Students will examine decision making, workplace conflict, employee motivation, planning, communication, ethics, and social responsibility while developing effective leadership skills.

BAT4M

Financial Accounting Principles

Grade 12 • University/College Preparation

This course introduces students to advanced accounting principles that prepare them for postsecondary business studies. Students will learn financial statements, business financing, accounting for assets, and accounting procedures for partnerships and corporations while strengthening business decision-making skills.

HZT4U

Philosophy: Questions and Theories

Grade 12 • University Preparation

This course introduces students to philosophical reasoning and the major branches of philosophy. Students will develop critical thinking, argument analysis, and research skills while exploring areas such as ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of science, social and political philosophy, and aesthetics.

CLN4U

Canadian and International Law

Grade 12 • University Preparation

This course explores contemporary legal issues in both Canadian and international law. Students will study human rights, conflict resolution, criminal, environmental, and workplace law while developing legal reasoning skills and applying legal inquiry to Canadian and international contexts.

Who Is Eligible

Dual transfer credits are available to all Grade 12 students enrolled in the VEGA Academy Day School program. Students must meet the Principal’s approval threshold.
